Whatever method the courts take, if your legal action is successful, the court can also order the parent to cover your attorney and legal fees for the case too.
Usually, the child lives mostly with one parent and has regular contact with the other (formerly called visitation).
Then you can request a payment from the other parent, and once you do that, your work is done.
